Is the online MA in Homeland Security recognized by the Center for Homeland Defense and Security (CHDS)?

Yes. The online MHS is a participant in the Center for Homeland Defense and Security (CHDS) University Agency and Partnership Initiative, offering you a number of courses from the official CHDS master’s course catalog.

Does the online MA in Homeland Security have an on-campus component?

No. Distance learners in the online MHS program are not required to visit the campus, but are always welcome. You are also encouraged to visit the 9/11 Memorial & Museum.

How long has Pace University been offering online programs?

Pace University has been offering online programs to our students since 1999.

Can I complete the online MHS program part-time?

Yes, the majority of our students complete the degree part-time while maintaining a full-time work schedule.

How long does it take to complete the online MHS?

Full-time students typically complete the degree in two years, taking nine to twelve credits per semester. Part-time students typically complete the degree in three to four years. Regardless of part- or full-time status, students are allowed up to 10 years to complete the degree.


Coursework

Is there an average GPA for the program?

Online MHS students are required to maintain a minimum average GPA of 3.0.

Is the online MHS program asynchronous or synchronous?

Though courses in the program are primarily asynchronous, faculty and students may decide to work together synchronously through Blackboard, our online learning platform.

How much time should I dedicate to coursework each week?

The amount of time spent on coursework varies by instructor and course, but you should expect to spend ten hours per week per course.

How quickly can I expect faculty to respond to my questions?

Students can expect to hear back from faculty within 24 hours, unless otherwise indicated.


Admission

Does the online MHS program accept international students?

Yes, if the applicant holds a four-year undergraduate degree or the equivalent, and only if the applicant intends on completing the program from their home country. Review the International Admission page for more information.

How will I receive an admission decision once I have submitted my application?

Applicants can expect to receive an admission decision via email and U.S. Postal Service within five business days from when a completed application is submitted.

What are the technical requirements for the online MHS program?

Basic technical requirements for the program include a laptop, video camera, headphones with microphone capabilities, and reliable Internet access. Learn more here.

Will transfer credits be accepted?

Yes. Students can transfer a maximum of six credits into the program with approval.


Tuition & Financial Aid

What types of financial aid or scholarships are available for the online MHS program?

Leave of absence impact on financial aid

Students on a leave of absence pursuant to the Leave of Absence Policy are considered withdrawn from the University for purposes of financial aid. Consequently, loan repayment obligations may be triggered. Students should speak to a representative of the Financial Aid Office for more detailed information about the status of their financial aid during a leave of absence prior to submitting a Leave of Absence Application.
